Indoor s’mores makers are a great way to make s’mores without having to leave the house. When the temperature drops, you don’t have to leave the house to roast marshmallows. Indoor s’mores come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and styles. Some are electric, while others are ceramic. Some are microwave-friendly, while others are non-microwave-friendly. Some don’t even need an outlet or oven. Some use fuel gel to start a flame, while others use a great indoor s’mores recipe!
In the kitchen appliances and culinary innovation lab of the G.H.I.T., we test a variety of appliances including fondue pots, electric tea kettle, cool kitchen gadgets, and s’mores makers. To test the best s’mores maker, we made 3 s’mores using 3 different types of marshmallows.
Jet-Puffed marshmallows,
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate, and
Honey Maid Fresh Stacked Graham Crackers were used to make the marshmallows. We evaluated each marshmallow’s texture after baking and scored it on a scale from 1-5. A marshmallow score of 5 meant that the marshmallows had a golden, crunchy outside and a soft, gooey inside.
What to Consider When Purchasing an S'mores Maker
The first thing you need to think about when you’re searching for s’mores makers is what style you’re going for.
Do you want something that you can make s’mores with inside? Or should I use a microwave or a stovetop marshmallow maker?
Heat source:
The next question you’ll want to ask yourself is, “what I want an electric s’mores maker?”Or should I go with a stovetop/microwave marshmallow maker? If you’re a stick-roaster, the latter is the best fit for you.
We found that roasted marshmallows with a flame looked the closest to a campfire marshmallow and scored higher overall, but roasted marshmallows in an electric s’mores maker weren’t too far off. Electric s’mores makers will also cost less in the long run because they don’t require the additional cost of canned chaffing fuel.
Last but not least, size. S’mores makers come in all shapes and sizes. Some are lightweight and come with break-away trays for easy storage. Others are heavy and come with ceramic plates or have multiple pieces and components.
Here are our picks for the best and most tried-and-true s’mores makers. Whether you’re planning a s’mores birthday bash for the kids, a fun date night for the two of you, or a quick afternoon snack, we’ve got you covered.
This maker was a fan favorite in the kitchen appliance and culinary innovation lab at the GHS. Not only did we think it looked cute on a dinner plate, but it also churned out gold campfire-like marshmallows, as well as 5-star “s”mores.
One tester loved how you could place graham (or chocolate) crackers on the sides of the maker to heat up (and melt) the marshmallows as you roasted them.
The laboratory was pleased with the adaptability of this maker for both indoor and outdoor use. However, it is essential to purchase the 6.1 oz gel can for the maker, as the extinguishing of flame can be challenging. Furthermore, the 10 minute pre-heating period of the ceramic plate left the laboratory feeling impatient, however, the overall experience was worth the wait.
PROS
- Roasting forks with 2 prongs
- Indoor & Outdoor Use
- Campfire Style Marshmallows
- Small Size
- Elegant Design

If you’re looking for a s’mores maker that can feed more than one person at a time, the S’more to Love maker is a great choice. It lets you make six s’mores per batch and comes at an affordable price, so you can use it again and again. All you need is a s’mores maker, an oven, a toaster oven, or a grill, and oven mitts to get started. Because you need to heat up the oven or grill first, it’s not the quickest s’more to love maker on this list. But we found the end result to be six delicious warm s’mores with marshmallows and melted chocolate.
While you’re unlikely to get campfire-ready golden marshmallows with the s’more, if melted chocolate is your jam, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a s’more that’s better for you. We do recommend keeping a close eye while making these, though, as overcooking can lead to messy chocolate and marshmallow messes. If that’s the case, a quick rinse in the dishwasher will do the trick!
PROS
- This s'mores basket is compatible with ovens, toaster ovens and grills.
- It can make 6 s'mores at a time
- It's great for melting chocolate
- The basket cools down quickly
CONS
- It takes longer to prep and cook
- The basket can be difficult to open
- Oven mitts are not recommended
- Marshmallow roasting is not recommended

OUR SCORE
This s’more was our favorite because it roasts marshmallows so quickly. The electric grill heats up in about five to 10 minutes. The plastic tray breaks apart easily for easy storage, and it’s easy to put together. The grill surface is a bit smaller than some of the other electric s’mores makers on our list, but it’s perfect for two people.
However, one tester did note that the built-in forks are too small for ease of use and they feel like their hands are too near the heat. Still, this s-mores maker does make great golden s’mores and we just can’t get enough.
PROS
- Rapid marshmallow roasting
- Small storage
- Light weight tray
CONS
- The Forks are very small
- They are not suitable for large gatherings
- The plastic trays feel cheap

If you’re looking for a s’mores maker with a real flame, this Chicago Metallic model is the way to go. It’ll make you think of marshmallows roasting around the campfire again. This is one of the few s’mores makers on our list that will give you that crispy, charred texture you love (although you’ll have to be careful. One of our testers admits that she accidentally burned her marshmallow three times the very first time she tried it and found the height of the flame intimidating at times).
On the plus side, it doesn’t need to be preheated. Just light the fuel gel and you’re good to go. Perfect for date night or a small group, as you need to be directly above the flame to get the best results. The only downside is that it’s a bit heavier and will take up more space in your kitchen cabinet.
PROS
- Quick prep and cooking time
- Campfire-inspired golden marshmallow
- Quality dishwasher-safe ceramic plate
CONS
- It is not suitable for use by more than one person
- It is necessary to buy 2.6 oz canned chaffing fuel

Kitchen Appliances & Culinary Innovation Lab loved how adorable, lightweight and simple it was to use and agreed that this is the best s’mores maker for kids. Simply fill up the water reservoir and prepare two s’mores and microwave for 30 seconds. Each s’more was filled with warm chocolate and melted marshmallow and we took a little extra delight in smashing them together with our makers’ hands and watching the marshmallow oozing out on to the sides.
The biggest downside is that you’re missing out on the fun of marshmallow roasting, and you’re not getting the crispy marshmallow exterior you’d get with a fire. However, this model felt incredibly safe, and it’s super easy to clean since there aren’t any electrical wires or cables to worry about.
PROS
- Affordable
- ProQuick prep & cooking time
- Easy to clean
- Clean in the dishwasher
- Cute & stylish
- Lightweight
- Portable
CONS

- Only for indoor use.
- Water must be changed every 2 uses.

OUR SCORE
The grill has a wide surface area, making it ideal for dinner parties and larger gatherings where marshmallows need to be roasted simultaneously. The marshmallows came out golden brown on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside, not exactly the crunchy marshmallows you’d find on a campfire. The final s’more result was pretty much the same.
The plastic tray is lightweight and has plenty of room to place s’mores ingredients along the sides, but due to the larger size of this s’mores maker, it will need some extra storage space.
PROS
- 4 roasting forks include
- Large grille surface area
- Group friendly
CONS
- Marshmallow does not cook evenly
- It takes up more space in the refrigerator
- It does not cook evenly

OUR SCORE
The City Bonfires concept appealed to us and we loved the idea of being able to light “campfires” outdoors (provided it wasn’t too windy). The S’mores maker is lightweight, portable, and easy to take anywhere you go. The portable fire pit is available separately, but we loved that the S’reores Night Pack included a great lighter, 2 roasting sticks, and a s’mores kit so we could get started as soon as possible. We especially liked that there was no need to clean up afterwards (although we did wish the provided sticks were reusable).
It’s not necessary or recommended to preheat the marshmallows, but we suggest waiting at least 5 minutes after you’ve lit the non-toxic briquettes. One tester said City Bonfires ended up with decent s’mores, but the soy wax deposit wasn’t great and gave them a black color. They also took a bit longer to cook than with other s’more makers.
PROS
- Includes s'mores kit with s'mores sticks & lighter
- Lightweight and portable
- Doesn't require cleaning
CONS
- The appearance of this product is similar to that of a black marshmallow.
- For outdoor use only
